Massaging FAYNAN Pure Wheat Germ Oil into damp skin after the shower

Wheat Germ Oil for Skin: How to Use a Rich Body Oil

Some oils are light enough to disappear into the skin. Wheat germ oil is not one of them, and that is the point. Rich, golden and full-bodied, it is the oil to reach for on the driest parts of the body, used a little at a time. This guide explains what wheat germ oil is and how to use it on the skin and hair.

What is wheat germ oil?

Wheat germ oil is pressed from the germ of the wheat grain, the small part of the kernel from which a new plant grows. Only a little oil comes from each grain, and it is deep golden, thick and gently scented, with a faintly nutty, cereal note.

FAYNAN Pure Wheat Germ Oil is a single ingredient, with nothing added.

An important first note: it contains wheat

Because it comes from the wheat grain, wheat germ oil is not for anyone allergic to wheat or gluten. If that applies to you, choose another body oil, such as Pure Jojoba Oil or Pure Akpi Seed Oil.

How to use wheat germ oil on the skin

  1. After bathing: pat skin lightly with a towel, leaving it slightly damp.
  2. Warm: place a few drops in your palms.
  3. Focus: massage into drier areas first: elbows, knees, heels and the backs of the hands.
  4. Settle: give it a few minutes before dressing.

Skin feels soft and supple, with a rich, cushioning feel on drier areas. Because it is rich, a few drops go a long way. For the full method, read How to Use Body Oil After the Shower.

A lighter blend

If wheat germ feels too rich on its own, blend it: 1 part wheat germ oil to 3 parts of a lighter oil, such as Pure Date Seed Oil or jojoba. In a teaspoon, that is roughly a quarter teaspoon of wheat germ topped up with your lighter oil. The blend spreads more easily over larger areas, like the legs and arms.

For a scented blend, add a single drop of Dill Seed or Frankincense Essential Oil per teaspoon of blend. Never apply an essential oil undiluted; read Essential Oils and Carrier Oils first.

Wheat germ oil for dry ends

A single drop, warmed between the palms and smoothed through dry ends, leaves them feeling smooth and cared for. Use it sparingly: on fine hair, a lighter oil such as argan may suit better. See How to Choose a Hair Oil.

How it compares with other body oils

Oil Feel Suits
Wheat Germ Rich, cushioning Drier areas; blending
Akpi Seed Light All-over, a healthy-looking sheen
Date Seed Fine Hair and body
Jojoba Very light Quick, non-greasy finish

Keeping it fresh

Rich oils keep well away from warmth and light. Close the bottle promptly after each use and store it somewhere cool. See How to Store Natural Oils and Powders.

A few things to keep in mind

  • Do not use if you are allergic to wheat or gluten.
  • Test on a small area of skin before first use.
  • Keep away from the eyes.
  • Stop using it if irritation occurs.
  • Oils can make the floor of a shower or bath slippery: take care.
